Pania 04:09
PANIA I saw your face on my TV Your problems seem so far from me I find it hard to conceive Some children sleep in cemeteries I heard your name upon the air But honestly it’s hard to care Prosperity has robbed us bare Of every feeling once held dear. Pania, you’re a street child Pania, how did you grow so wild? This world is cold and people sad The street’s the only friend you’ve had You lost your mum, don’t know your dad You trade them in on a plastic bag The glue you sniff to help forget The aching need that’s never met So you light another cigarette And sleep with someone you’ve never met. Pania, you’re a street child Pania, how did you grow so wild? Your tribal roots dispossessed You roam the urban wilderness Deprived of love, outside the light Denim pilgrim of the night Tonight you’re on the streets again But the darkness can’t disguise your pain While urban yuppie pleasure slaves Deny the love that might have saved you. Pania, you’re a street child Pania, how did you grow so wild?

Heart Attack 03:08
HEART ATTACK On one side of the world there’s a man Who’s dying and it’s hard to understand I’ve seen him on my TV screen from time to time And his children’s hollow eyes burn into mine He had a heart attack His body couldn’t take it any more He’s dying because his country is so poor While the weapons of the wealthy feed the war Heart attack While on the other side of the world there’s a man Who’s dying, & his wife can’t understand She’s sure that she’s given him the best that she can But her love has proved too much for him to stand He had a heart attack And they say that he was only thirty three He died because he couldn’t stop his greed While the evening news shows the people we don’t feed Heart attack And I wonder how we have come so far From the paradise God gave us It’s a mystery of humanity And I wonder what can save us? We need a heart attack We need to feel the pain so very deep inside We need to hurt so much there’s nowhere for love to hide We need to think again so no-one has to die From a heart attack.

The Same 05:00
THE SAME I saw a beggar woman in Latoka Sitting on the pavement by the gutter Upon her lap she held her crying daughter Held her hand out to the pa’langi stranger I was walking by the tourist duty-free shops Confronted by an urchin with a carving “Hey mister, will you tell me what your name is and I’ll write it here, it only costs a dollar?” You, you have so much Won’t you spare a little solace for my pain? You, you come to watch But you walk away while my life remains The same. In the corner park ohn K road sleeps a drunkard He’s lying on a park bench in the pale sun With an old army raincoat for his cover There’s an empty whisky bottle in the gutter I was strolling in my lunch-hour down in Queen Street When this guy grabbed my elbow and he asked me “Hey man, I’m on methadone treatment, can you spare a little cash, it’s for my bus fare?” you, you have so much can you spare a little solace for my pain? You, you stand and watch Then you walk away while my life remains The same. I get upset when life confronts me like this And it’s easy to mistake my smile for concern If you don’t know what it is And you don’t know what it is. At mass as a child I heard the lessons About Jesus, and how he loved the orphans How he stretched out his arms to hug the leper And spoke to the hypocrites in anger And I’d really like to think that I was like that And hope that the folks at church will notice But when I finally get the chance to I draw back in fear and revulsion. Me, I have so much Why can’t I spare a little solace for their pain? Me, I stand and watch But then I turn away again and again and again (And they say) You, you have so much Could you spare a little solace for our pain? You, you stand and watch But if you walk away then we’ll both remain The same.

MASTER AND SERVANT Now I know I will follow wherever you lead Your words and your deeds make me want to believe In all of your wisdom The power of your kingdom. For so many years I refused to believe I looked at this world and all I could see Was sorrow and heartache Wages of hypocrisy I wanted to be the master of my world Holding on tight to some semblance of control Destined to be independent and alone Lord I thank you for leading me back to your fold. All the time you were waiting so patiently You knew all along some day I would see The joy of your wisdom The power of your kingdom. For you are the master And I am the servant now. Yes, you are the master And I am the servant now.

AS I AM / AS YOU ARE I’m a sinful man in a sinful world I try to change myself, but nothing works so I reach out to you, I call out to you I reach out to you if there’s anything that you can do take me as I am, make me as you are. Lord I’m not worthy that you should enter here but if you’ll just say one word, I’ll be clear I reach out to you as I call out to you I re3ach out to you because there’s nothing else that I can do take me as I am, make me as you are.

GOD OF THE MOUNTAINS God of the mountains & God of the seas God of the rivers & God of the trees God of the children & God of the land Help us to cherish the works of your hand For we love you & all the things you have made As you saw they were good, may we do the same God who created the web of our lives Help us to call on our will to survive Show us that we cannot stand on our own We are but one of the seeds you have sown For we love you & all the things you have made As you saw they were good, may we do the same God of the mountains & God of the seas God of the rivers & God of the trees God of the children & God of the land Help us to cherish the works of your hand.

UNTIL I SAW YOUR FACE It’s easy to pretend that nothing’s wrong With so many things to hide behind I always thought I was alone Until I saw your face You touched my heart, you made me cry And I’ll never be the same. It’s easy to get lost along the way With so many signs to choose from I never thought I’d find a road Until I saw your face You touched my mind and now I know The puzzle falls into place. It’s easy to be fearful of the night When life is mostly mystery and unknown I used to think I’d be afraid Until I saw your face You touched my hand, you spoke my name…..

NOTHING AT ALL Faces and photographs Pictures from a foreign land Eyes filled with innocence They’re trying their best to understand But it doesn’t make any sense to them And it doesn’t make any sense to me And it doesn’t make any sense to the one who made us all Some have everything & some have nothing at all We know this is not the way it’s meant to be We only have to look in their eyes to see The questions written there could melt your heart The only question now is where to start Because it doesn’t make any sense to them And it doesn’t make any sense to me And it doesn’t make any sense to the one who made us all Some have everything & some have nothing at all What is it those faces ask of me What must I sacrifice to meet their needs Well if Jesus gave his life so we could live Surely there is something that we can give Because it doesn’t make any sense to them And it doesn’t make any sense to me And it doesn’t make any sense to the one who made us all Some have everything & some have nothing at all.

Psalm One 04:28
PSALM ONE Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the ungodly or stands with sinners, or sits with those who scorn but his delight is in the law of the Lord and in his law he meditates day and night He is like a tree planted by the waterside who brings forth his fruit at the right time his leaf will not wither, even in the wintertime and God blesses all his ways But the ungodly are not so they’re like the chaff that the wind blows away and only those who do what’s right will stand on that day Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk that way so be like a tree planted by the waterside.

about

Heart Attack was recorded in 1995 & originally half the proceeds from sales went to TEAR Fund, for whom we were doing some promo work at the time. Consequently the tracks have social justice &/or spiritual themes. Derek Lind did the cover art while listening to a rough mix of the album.
