All I Ever Really Wanted

from Kindness In A Strong City by Mark Laurent

/

lyrics

ALL I EVER REALLY WANTED

As the deer pants after water
And the dry earth yearns for rain
As the hungry mouth begs filling
So I need you
Oh my mind craves understanding
And my body to be healed from pain
So my spirit needs to touch you
To be whole again.

There is a way that seems right to a man
But the end of that way is death
And we all like sheep have gone astray
Lost on the way
And all my imaginations and dreams
Went slipping through my fingers like sand
Because the spirit’s willing but the flesh is so weak
Lord I need your hand.

I always knew that you were there
But my selfish heart has kept me so blind
And you have waited patiently
For so long.

And all I ever really wanted, Lord
Was to be with you.
